Pediment from the Siphnian Treasury: It depicts the dispute between Apollo and Heracles over the Delphic tripod, with Zeus or Athena in the centre making an effort to reconcile the two adversaries. The incident was triggered by the refusal of Pythia to provide advice to Heracles. The hero then seized the tripod in order to establish his own oracle. Heracles is recognized by the lion pelt, while the figure shown trying to restrain Apollo is identified as Artemis. It dates before 524 BC.
