Gold square plaque with repousse representation of a griffin: The plaque possibly served as a chest ornament attached to a chryselephantine statue. Griffins, mythical creatures with the head and wings of a bird of prey and a feline body, were frequently encountered in Greek art during the 7th and the 6th c. BC. The motif constituted a loan from the East. The plaque belongs to the 6th c. BC.
