Miniature theatrical mask of a woman: The mask depicts a young woman of the pseudokore (false maiden) or the young hetaira (courtesan) type. In ancient theatre, all roles were played by men; therefore, the use of masks in theatrical performances was absolutely necessary. The mask is dated between the 3rd and the 1st c. BC.
