Dionysos Kitharodos: The statue dominated the west pediment of the classical temple of Apollo. Dionysos, holding kithara, is accompanied by his female followers, the Thyiades, depicted as dancers. Every winter, Apollo departed from the sanctuary to spend time in the land of the Hyperboreans. During his absence, he was replaced by Dionysos who is portrayed as the oracle’s patron god. It dates between 340 and 330 BC.
